Overview

Professor Godfrey Walters jointly founded the Centre for Water Systems which has about 30 researchers working mainly in the areas of water system optimisation and hydroinformatics. He currently acts as a part-time consultant to the group. The Centre has developed novel Genetic Algorithm and other Evolutionary computing software tools which are being applied to a variety of real engineering design problems in collaboration with water industry consultants and water companies worldwide.

Research Interests

Professor Walters' main work concerns water distribution system operation and design, but other areas involve sewerage system design and control, reservoir control rules, project planning, risk assessment and flood control.

The techniques employed include genetic algorithms, evolutionary programs, data mining, neural networks, genetic programming and rule base development.
