Overview

Hong completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Materials at Loughborough University between 2005 and 2008. Following this, she worked as a Research Associate/Fellow at Loughborough University, The University of Nottingham and University of Exeter. In 2012, she transitioned into the role of Experimental Officer and later the role of Experimental Officer/Imaging Suite Manager.

Specializing in materials characterisation, Hong manages various facilities including light microscope, SEM EDS, FIB SEM, TEM/STEM, XRD, CT, AFM, and sample preparation equipments. Her expertise extends to providing teaching, training, demonstration as well as hands-on service for students projects, research initiatives and industrial clients.

Hong is a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) since 2015, a Chartered Scientist (CSci) since 2017, a Professional Registration Assessor since 2018, a Fellow of Royal Microscopical Society (FRMS) since 2018, and a CPD reviewer since 2023. She also sits in the Engineering Health and Safety Committe, the University of Exeter's Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) Committee, as well as Technical Strategy and Operations' Staff Wellbeing Committee.
