Profile
Mr Iago Rodriguez Diez
Postgraduate Researcher (Metamaterials CDT 2017)
Telephone: 01392 725018
Extension: (Streatham) 5018
My previous academic education is a BSc degree in Physics (graduated in 2015) at University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and a MSc in
Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (graduated in 2016) at University of Barcelona (Spain). For my BSc final project I synthesized and charaterized fluorescent nanoparticles made of NaYF4 : Er, Tm and tested them as fluorescent probes inside HeLa cancer cells. For my master's final project I designed the optical system (waveguides, lenses made of SU-8 polymer) of a flow micro-cytometer and implemented it as a Lab-on-a-chip platform.
I am currently a PhD student within the Centre for Doctoral Training Metamaterials programme (XM2) at the University of Exeter. My project focuses on the fabrication, characterization and application of nanolasers. More specifically I am studying the use of dielectric nanocavities such as nanodisks or defects in photonic crystals to enhance the light-matter interaction and achieve lasing at the nanoscale. The dielectric material that I am using as gain medium is a quantum well made of the semiconductors GaInP / AlGaInP. My project is being supervised by Isaac Luxmoore and Geoff Nash.
