Engineering

Ceri Howells is a Senior Lecturer in Engineering and Faculty Director of Global Student Recruitment (ESE) at the University of Exeter.

Ceri’s work focuses on engineering education, curriculum development and the integration of entrepreneurship, innovation and real-world problem-solving into engineering programmes. He leads and contributes to modules across multiple stages of study, using challenge-led and project-based learning to help students develop strong technical foundations alongside the broader skills needed to address complex engineering challenges.

As Faculty Director of Global Student Recruitment, Ceri provides strategic leadership for international student recruitment, working to strengthen Exeter’s global profile, identifying new markets and communicate the distinctive educational and career opportunities available to prospective students. His work includes supporting international partnerships, enhancing recruitment activity and helping students understand the academic pathways, professional experiences and wider opportunities offered at Exeter.

Ceri also leads the 'Engineering the Future' outreach initiative - bringing together university students, schools and external partners to tackle challenges connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The programme aims to widen participation in engineering, strengthen young people’s understanding of engineering careers and give university students practical experience of developing socially responsible and entrepreneurial solutions; demonstrating how engineering can create positive social, environmental and economic impact.

His academic background in integrated engineering, sustainable energy and environmental protection feed into the technical aspects of the new modules as well as providing students with the skills and mindset required to keep up to date with rapidly evolving technology.

Ceri has also been lead academic for the Elevate competition, funded by the Sainsbury's Engineers in Business Fellowship.
