Dr Mohamad Abdel-Aal
Senior Lecturer
Engineering
Mohamad's research focuses on decarbonising urban water and wastewater systems through energy recovery, sustainable heat utilisation, and computational modelling. He is actively leading and contributing to a portfolio of research projects where advanced modelling of complex systems plays a central role in efforts to integrate renewable energy within water infrastructure, supporting cross-sector collaboration and evidence-based innovation. Alongside his modelling expertise, Mohamad has strong experience in field and laboratory research environments, including the design, supervision and analysis of full-scale sewer rig experiments and field heat pump installations.
Mohamad is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (C.WEM, MCIWEM) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a multi-disciplinary academic and industrial track record in water engineering and environmental sustainability. He joined the University of Exeter in 2023, following various academic roles at Teesside University, Cranfield University, and the University of Sheffield.
