Matthew Hayslep is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter. He has research interests in the application of optimisation (e.g. genetic algorithms and genetic programming) and machine learning to solve real-world engineering problems. He is currently the post-doc of a CREWW project on using machine learning to locate lead service pipes for replacement in water distribution systems. He has experience designing and delivering workshops, giving conference presentations, and publishing peer reviewed research in journal articles. 

 

Matt's research has resulted in several journal and conference publications, as well as a 'Best Paper Award' at the prestigious 'GECCO' conference in 2023. He studied his PhD at the University of Exeter between 2021 and 2025. Matt also holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Computing and IT from The Open University and a M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Southampton.
