Xuping Wu

Dr Xuping Wu is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Engineering at the University of Exeter. Her work lies at the intersection of materials science, mechanics, and flexible electronics, with a broad focus on developing advanced sensing technologies for human-centred healthcare and robotic applications.

She received her PhD in Materials Physics and Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), following a BEng in Materials Forming and Control Engineering from Hunan University, China. Before joining the University of Exeter, she conducted postdoctoral research at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), USA.

Her current MSCA project, WRIST-PD (Wearable Resilient and Improved-sensitivity Strain-sensing Technology for Parkinson’s Disease), aims to develop a comfortable and intelligent wearable system for monitoring Parkinson’s disease-related motor symptoms in real-world settings. The project combines highly sensitive and stretchable strain sensors with biomechanical analysis, wireless data acquisition, and deep learning to capture and interpret subtle wrist, hand, and finger movements. Ultimately, WRIST-PD seeks to advance continuous and unobtrusive motor monitoring, with potential applications in remote assessment and personalised management of Parkinson’s disease.
