Dr Zhuxian Yang

Dr Zhuxian Yang is an associate research fellow working in Prof Shaowei Zhang's group on high entropy ceramics.

Zhuxian obtained her PhD from University of Nottingham under the supervision of Prof. Robert Mokaya. Her PhD study was on the synthesis, characterisation and application of meso/microporous carbon materials, especially for hydrogen storage. She worked as a research fellow on hydrogen storage of multi-component metal hydrides and confined hydrides in the University of Nottingham in 2009-2010 after graduation. Since 2012, most of the time, she has been working in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, University of Exeter on several projects including two EU projects on porous materials and membranes for methane adsorption and separation from ventilated air methane and the recycling of graphene-based supercapacitors, one industry sponsored project on nanocomposite fabrication for various applications, one Leverhulme funded project on direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from carbon dioxide and methanol with porous ceria as catalysts, and one EPSRC funded project on H₂ storge of MgH₂ confined in porous scaffolds. 

Her expertise is in the preparation and characterisation of porous materials and nanocomposite, including zeolites, carbons, MOFs and metal oxides for gas storage and electrochemical catalysis, metal or polymer nanocomposites for various applications.

Her research interests include applications of porous materials in gas storage and separation, as electrocatalysts in hydrogen production and energy storage, property modification of nanocomposites, and applications of high entropy ceramics.
