Emeritus Professor Slobodan Djordjevic worked for University of Exeter between 2002 and 2025. He served as the Director of Postgraduate Studies, Director of Education for Engineering, elected member of the University Senate, Associate Dean (International and Development) in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and most recently as Deputy Head of Engineering Department and Co-Director of the Centre for Water Systems.

 

Slobodan has worked extensively on development and application of advanced methodologies and tools for simulation of urban flooding, modelling of flow and blockages in drainage networks and assessment of various direct and indirect impacts of flooding in the context of climate change and urban development. His other areas of expertise include hydrology, tidal energy extraction, bathing water quality, impacts of dams, river engineering, scour around bridge piers, and cascading effects between different critical infrastructure systems. He also worked on studies of integrated water management including nature-based solutions, water-food-energy nexus, drought risk management, desalination, waterborne diseases, ventilation of tunnels, and water systems in ancient civilizations.

 

Grants worth £15m were awarded to Slobodan for fifty research projects worldwide. He has a wealth of experience in working with multidisciplinary teams and acting as independent expert or consultant for complex problems.
