Advances in Water Research & Innovation: 1998 to 2023 and beyond

In August 2023, we will proudly be celebrating the Centre for Water Systems' (CWS) 25th anniversary and we are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a two-day celebration event to mark this special occasion: 'Advances in Water Research & Innovation: 1998 to 2023 and beyond' #CWS25.

This event will take place at the University of Exeter's Streatham Campus from Thursday 31st August to Friday 1st September 2023. On Day 1, we will celebrate our notable achievements over the past 25 years and on Day 2, we will look forward together to the next 25 years.

We would like to invite all past and present CWS members - including staff, postgraduate research students and visitors - and academic and industrial colleagues to join us in our celebrations.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible - so, please save the date!

Further details can be found below:

The 'Advances in Water Research & Innovation: 1998 to 2023 and beyond' event will take place from Thursday 31st August to Friday 1st September 2023 and will consist of two distinct themes.

Day 1, Thursday 31st August 2023: "Celebration"

Day 1 will be a celebration of CWS and our notable achievements spanning the past 25 years. This will be a great opportunity for past and present members to come together as one to reflect and celebrate the Centre's (and your) many successes.

The outline schedule is as follows:

  • Arrival lunch & registration (12:00 PM start)
  • Session 1: 25 years of CWS - Welcome address and talks from CWS directors/founders, focused on the history of the Centre and our research, collaborations, achievements and more.
  • Afternoon break
  • Session 2: My time with CWS - Talks from distinguished CWS alumni - both within academia and industry - focused on their time at CWS and how this has helped shape their careers.
  • Evening barbeque

Day 2, Friday 1st September 2023: "Future challenges"

In contrast, Day 2 will be focused on "future challenges" and will aim to explore the key water-related issues that we are likely to face over the next 25 years and to help shape our research direction(s), accordingly.

The outline schedule is as follows:

  • Session 3: Research for the next 25 years - Talks from current CWS staff and PGRs, focused on their research area(s) and future water-related challenges.
  • Morning break
  • Session 4: Hot topics - parallel workshops - Parallel workshops focused on key future water-related challenges.
  • Lunch & poster session
  • Session 5: The way forward - Feedback from workshops, looking forward, awards ceremony and closing remarks (approx. 16:00 PM finish).

"Where Are They Now?"

We are very keen to showcase our past CWS members and we are therefore looking for volunteers to contribute towards our "Where Are They Now?" collection.
