Major new grant to research emergency flood planning

Professor David Butler and his team have been successful in winning an EPSRC research grant entitled “Emergency flood planning and management using unmanned aerial systems".

This is a £1.5 million multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary UK-India consortium project led by the University of Exeter. The overall aim of the project is to develop and demonstrate an effective emergency flood planning and management approach. It will be based on the synergetic use of onsite, measured information collected by Unmanned Aerial Systems with mathematical models for flood modelling, evacuation route planning and dynamic emergency resource allocation. The project partners are Cranfield University, the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, New Delhi. There are other major collaborators include the Environment Agency, UNEP, Arcadis and the Information Technology Research Academy, India.
