FaME Kick-off Meeting Attendees

FaME Kick-off Meeting and Stakeholder Workshop

A successful kick-off meeting and stakeholder workshop were held on 15th May 2018 in London. Both events were organised by the University of Exeter and held at the UKWIR’s premises in Westminster.

FaME is a NERC funded project led by Prof Fayyaz Memon (Principal Investigator), Prof David Butler and Prof Shaowei Zhang (Co-investigators). The project aims to study the sources and fate of Emerging Contaminants (ECs) and their interactions in receiving waters and Wastewater Treatment Plants (WTPs), and to develop novel and sustainable management strategies to improve water quality.

The kick-off meeting was held on the morning of 15th of May 2018 alongside their project partners from University College London (UCL), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras). The industry steering board was made up of UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR), Environment Agency, South West Water, Severn Trent Water, ALS Environmental and HYDROK.

During the afternoon of 15th May, the FaME Team held their first stakeholders (end-users) workshop. This included a series of presentations (both from the UK and India) and discussions on several aspects of the FaME project (including ECs in India and the UK/EU and User Friendly Decision Support Tool (DST) for optimal treatments). This event was the first of a series of interactive end-user workshops which aims to provide a platform to develop a community and a network of professionals interested in pushing forward the research agenda on ECs and developing and piloting improved treatment solutions.

The next workshop will be held in December 2018.

Date: 27 June 2018
