The Centre for Water Systems partners up for a “hAQUAthon”

This November, the Centre for Water Systems is partnering with other high-profile bodies in the water industry for a water-themed Hackathon, appropriately renamed a “hAQUAthon”.

On 22 and 23 November a range of companies, academia and partners will come together to work on commercially viable solutions to real life data problems. The “Hackathon” or Data Hack concept, is when computer programmers and others join together in a fast-paced event to solve specific problems; often it has a competitive element between teams.

The Centre for Water Systems has partnered with decisionLab, UK Artesia Consulting and Innovate UK in what will be an intensive event at Future Cities in London.

The focus is on new Data Science applications to enable Smart Water Networks. There is an opportunity to build new networks, identify real-world solutions to big challenges and accelerate innovation in the water community.

The event is free to attend for participants. Prizes and support will be offered to the top teams, which will facilitate engagement with industry. The winning team will also pitch their idea to the “Water Dragons” during the Future Water Networks Event on 4 December. Winners will also be coached in Investor readiness, supported by Innovate UK “Access to Funding and Finance (A2FF) Programme”.

Prof Dragan Savic, Co-Director of the Centre for Water Systems, said “The importance of collaborative solutions is one of our guiding principles at the Centre for Water Systems – we are very pleased to be partnering with others on this special event. Although the hAQUAthon promises to be a fun experience, I am certain it will generate useful work on smart networks and data collection.”
