Profile
Mr Babak Zolghadr-Asli
Postgraduate Researcher (QUEX Institute)
Maximising the benefits of desalinated seawater supply networks for agricultural sustainability
Babak Zolghadr-Asli's primary research interest is to incorporate the idea of computational and artificial intelligence (e.g., optimization, data mining, machine learning, etc.) and decision-making paradigms to tackle the challenges that are acquitted with sustainable management of water resources, such as the potential impacts of climate change. These would help us move toward more robust decision-making frameworks that can address the economic, environmental, and technical aspects of water engineering by shedding light on the energy-water-food nexus role of water.
He is currently a joint-PhD student under the QUEX program working at Sustainable Minerals Institute, The University of Queensland, Australia, and The Centre for Water Systems (CWS), The University of Exeter, UK.
Biography
Babak started his education in water engineering back in 2009 and received his B.Sc. in 2013 from Shiraz University, Iran. He then pursued his education as a water resources engineer and obtained his master's degree from the University of Tehran, Iran in 2017. To this day, he has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in renowned scientific journals including Nature's Scientific Reports. He also co-authored a book entitled "A Handbook on Multi-Attribute Decision-Making Methods." His upcoming project entitled "Computational Intelligence for Water and Environmental Sciences" would be published by Springer in mid-2022 where he served as a co-editor of a book series for "Studies in Computational Intelligence."
Babak has received the outstanding researcher award in “the 26th Research Festival”, University of Tehran (2017); Outstanding student award in “the 8th International Festival and Exhibition”, University of Tehran (2018); Outstanding M.Sc. thesis award in “the 5th National Festival of Environment”, Tehran Iran (2018); Winner of the “Prof. Alireza Sepaskhah” 1st Scientific Award in water engineering [Shiraz University] (2019). In addition to these, he has been awarded the Excellent Reviewer, Journal of Hydro Science & Marine Engineering (2020).
Industry
Babak has helped the Faculty of university of Tehran's water resources engineering department as Research and teaching assistant from Sep. 2016 to March 2021.
