Overview

Chnar Solae is delivering the role of Academic Mentor for the Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship programme. Prior to joining the University of Exeter, Chnar was working for a temporary works design firm. Her works included the design and check for removal and demolition of bridges, design of temporary pathways, assessments of ground conditions, which included utilising multiple finite element analysis software such as STAAD Pro and Advanced Design Graitec.

Chnar has obtained MSc. Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with Civil Emphasis from the University of Georgia in the United States of America and BSc. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Sulaimani in Kurdistan of Iraq.

During her MSc study, Chnar collaborated with the Georgia Department of Transportation in the USA to investigate the factors caused cracking on a newly constructed bridge built by using the recently innovated method of Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC)/Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). The research was performed using Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis software called DIANA. As the outcome of her research, she developed solutions to minimize and mitigate future bridge deck cracking, which is implemented by the Georgia Department of Transportation in their ABC bridge design and construction.
