Postgraduate Researcher (STREAM IDC)

Overview

Matthew is currently undertaking an EngD in Water Engineering at the University of Exeter’s Centre for Water Systems under the STREAM IDC programme and sponsored by South West Water. Matthew graduated in 2007 with a BSc in Renewable Energy and later gained an MSc in Water management, both from the University of Exeter. Much of Matthew’s career has been spent working in consultancy based roles or within specialist project teams in both the water and energy sectors.

Matthew’s current research project aims to develop a decision support framework to identify cost effective methods of enhancing the resilience of water and wastewater service delivery at a catchment scale. He intends to use the complexity science techniques of System Dynamics Modelling to map and simulate the interactions within the urban water cycle into an integrated model. The model will facilitate stress analysis of the whole urban water cycle against the likely pressures of climate change, and help to evaluate potential interventions that enhance resilience.
