Overview

Sophie is a PhD researcher at the Penryn Campus in the Renewable Energy Engineering department. She is studying within the NERC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Management of Marine Resources (CDT SuMMeR), under the supervision of Dr Ian Ashton (Exeter), Dr Ajit Pillai (Exeter), and Dr Graham Quartly (Plymouth Marine Lab).

Her research project is titled: 'Characterising the dynamics around offshore wind farms by combining machine learning and oceanographic techniques'.

The first package of her work investigates using satellite-derived wave measurements with the MaLCOM modelling framework  - a new ocean wave modelling approach that integrates models and measurements using machine learning. Her research poster summarising this work is available to view via the university website here.
